As a seasoned traveler and a two-time expat, I did a few things that I should have known better.
You have to really want to live abroad to put yourself through the seemingly endless list of requirements AND to navigate them in a foreign language. It makes you appreciate what you might have taken for granted in your home country.
When I overheard people speaking Spanish in the U. S., I leaned in to hear their conversations, and realized how much I missed hearing and speaking this beautiful language.
My advice applies to women’s restrooms, though I have accidentally been in a couple of men’s, but only for a split second!
Despite the frigid weather, it seemed destined for me to take this opportunity to see a new-to-me country and do a few of my favorite things: devour premium chocolate, visit charming bookshops, hang out in cozy cafes, and stroll through cool art museums.
James Wallace said, “Opportunities come to pass, not to pause.” I calmed myself with this thought and that I might never get another opportunity to go to Belgium, and if I did, it most definitely wouldn’t be this affordable.
I didn’t second guess whether I should see a movie. It was one of my intentions to do more movie watching so I cut out the internal back and forth: Go or don’t go? Yes or no? It’s a yes, just do it!
What began as a means to keep the magic in the season has become something much more meaningful. Marilyn said, “This year it was really fun for me to watch all three boys at different times come in and sort through the packages.
Sometimes you need to just say yes to new things. This was one of those weeks. Something new? Something random? Okay, why not? Let’s GO!!!
